CLEANSE, CLEAN AND CONNECT WITH PLASTIC FREE NORTH DEVON
Plastic Free North Devon are welcoming in 2023 with our campaign and competition dedicated to cleansing and cleaning North Devon and Torridge throughout January.
They are inviting you to start off the new year by getting out into nature; cleansing our minds and bodies and giving back to nature by carrying out a street, beach, or park clean while you’re there. Guaranteed feel good vibes, and you might even win a dryrobe® Advance!
We all know that being outdoors can hugely benefit our mental health by relieving stress and improving our happiness, and this campaign is about encouraging people to do just that whilst giving back to the environment at the same time.
Anne-Marie Eveleigh, PFND Operations Manager, says:
“We would like to encourage everyone to get outside in the fresh air, whether that be a stroll in your local park, a walk along your high street, a cycle around your village or a bracing dip, and then to carry out a clean at the same time. Caring for your surroundings by just picking up one or two pieces of rubbish DOES make a difference.”
Claire Moodie, PFND CEO, continues:
“One of our objectives is to connect people with nature, and this campaign does just that. In the most important decade of our time we need to inspire a deep shift in how we place the importance of the health of the planet, and everything that lives on it, AND what we can all do to take action to protect it.”
Now in its third year, the campaign also has a competition element open to kids, teens, and adults, designed to encourage people to get outside no matter what the weather, with one lucky winner in each category winning a dryrobe® Advance, kindly donated by North Devon based company dryrobe®.
How YOU can get involved:
-
Perform a ‘Cleanse and Clean’ action * whenever and wherever you choose across North Devon and Torridge, in the month of January.
-
To enter the competition send a picture of the action* you have taken to: [email protected] along with the location, your name, age category (Primary School, Secondary School and College, or 18 +) with your contact details. If you are taking part with your school, college, or groups such as scouting or girl guides, please also include this information. If you are under 16 please provide a parent or guardians contact details too.
-
If you have access to social media then you can share your action by tagging us in any posts @plasticfreenorthdevon with the hashtag #cleanseandclean and encourage others to take part and donate.
*The cleansing action can be anything that involves getting outside to give the feeling of ‘blowing away the cobwebs’. This could be a walk, a jog, a cycle, a dip in the sea, a surf, or just a run around in the rain. We would then like individuals to follow their action up with giving back to nature by cleaning during or after their activity, and/or donating.
The more Cleanse and Clean action entries sent in the more chance of winning! There is one prize for primary school pupils, one for secondary & college pupils, and one for 18+.
They will be ending the month-long campaign with a Day of Action on Saturday 28th January 2023 with individuals and groups carrying out Cleanse and Cleans across North Devon and Torridge. Keep and eye on the charity social media pages and website for information on the locations of these cleans. THERE WILL BE A BEACH CLEAN AT WOOLACOMBE BEACH AT 2PM ON 28.01.23 - MEET AT MILL ROCK!
Immersing ourselves in nature to relieve stress and improving happiness is only going to be possible in the future if we take care of our planet - this campaign is aimed at encapsulating this.
Happy cleansing and cleaning!
