Beat the January blues and boost your mood at RHS Rosemoor's first Houseplant Weekend event, 25-26 January.
Boost your wellbeing and discover the world of houseplants at Rosemoor’s new event focused on this specialist subject on 25-26 January.
As well as looking great, research suggests that houseplants support human health, wellbeing, and productivity.
The psychological benefits of indoor plants are improved mood, reduced stress levels, increased productivity (especially in offices) and in some cases, improved attention span. Physical health benefits include reduced blood pressure, lower fatigue, and fewer headaches.
So, what better way to start the new year than by going to see a huge variety of houseplants and getting an expert to help you pick one that will thrive in your home for years to come?
Not only will you find lots of different plants to suit all light aspects and budgets, but you can also speak to specialists to get top care tips and enjoy free talks and demonstrations throughout the day to make sure your plants of choice get the best care in your home.
At 11am on each day you can catch a Houseplant 101 session with expert Rob Vincent of Hutch Houseplants, Exeter. Bring your burning questions or just listen and learn how best to cultivate your indoor garden. Or, catch a repotting demonstration packed with care tips by 'Dr Orchid' Saul Walker from the Devon Orchid Society daily at 12 noon.
If you are interested in recreating the wild beauty of Devon inside your home, you should catch the 2pm slot, a ‘Growing and caring for Ferns’ talk by Matthew Reeve from the Tender Fern Society. Alternatively, learn how to build your own terrarium by watching a demonstration by Mark O'Connor, one of Rosemoor’s talented Horticultural Apprentices, at 3pm.
Spaces on all talks and demos are available on a first come, first served basis.
Do you have space for a plant but aren’t sure which one would be the best for the position? Rosemoor’s expert Retail Team can help you choose the right plant for the right place from the largest selection of houseplants ever stocked at Rosemoor. With special offers, after care bundles and plenty of pots and planters, there's never been a better time to add to your indoor jungle!
The RHS Plant Advisory team will also be on site all weekend to give advice on any plant problems you have but you are asked not to bring your plants onto site, just photographs, to help get an accurate diagnosis.
The event even has a special guest exhibitor – local furnishers from Barnstaple, Barrow Clark, partnered with Hutch Houseplants in Exeter, are showcasing how you can create a stylish, comfy and welcoming oasis in your home, demonstrating how to perfectly place houseplants to enhance your indoor spaces.
Rob Barrow of Barrow Clark Furnishers says; “We are very excited to be a part of the Houseplant Weekend, working with Rosemoor and Hutch Houseplants. Plants can help us rest and relax in our homes and indoor spaces, however big or small. We hope to inspire visitors by showing them how you can combine comfortable and stylish furniture with beautiful plants to create the ultimate environment to unwind in.”
This event will give you the knowledge and expertise to turn your interest in houseplants into a hobby - you never need to fear indoor growing again!
