Tramper Hire from Woolacombe TIC

Woolacombe Tramper Twitchen Valley Circular Route Countryside Mobility Scheme

Here at the Woolacombe & Mortehoe Tourist Information Centre, we offer a Tramper Hire Service, where you can hire a Tramper (aka an All Terrain Mobility Scooter) to access places that may normally pose a challenge for those with limited mobility. We offer 3 specific routes - one on to the main beach in Woolacombe, as far as Mill Rock; one through the Dunes up to The Porthole Cafe and back along Marine Drive; and one up the Donkey Path to Twitchen and back down through the Combesgate Valley.

To hire the Tramper, you first need to become a member of the Countryside Mobility Scheme, which you can do here at the Tourist Information Centre. The cost is £5 for 2 weeks, or £15 for a year, and includes training and insurance cover. Then there is a hire fee of £5 for each 2 hour session. The Tramper can be hired from 10.30-12.30 or 1.30 to 3.30. It has to return to the TIC in between sessions for charging. Two sessions can be booked in advance, then additional sessions can be added if there is late availability. To book, just give us a call on 01271 870553. We also have a beach wheelchair available (courtesy of beach owners, Parkin Estates) - give us a call to find out more. Note, both the Tramper and Wheelchair are very popular, particularly in fine weather, so please call ahead before making a special journey.

Our Woolacombe National Trust rangers recently took the Tramper on the Donkey Path route, with a local lady who is a regular Tramper user, to take some photos and video footage to help publicise the service, and to give people an idea of the the terrain.

This service is a partnership by the North Devon National Trust, the Countryside Mobility Scheme and Woolacombe TIC. We are very grateful to our partners in facilitating this invaluable service.
