Here at the Woolacombe & Mortehoe Tourist Information Centre, we take research on all things local very seriously, so that we know first-hand what visitors can expect from our local attractions and amenities, and can share this knowledge!
Recently I was lucky enough to have a beach hut for just over a week, and spent many hours (although not as many as I would have liked!) enjoying the beach from the comfort of a deckchair, which comes with the hut (each hut contains two deckchairs, a table and two further chairs, a windbreak, and an all-important mallet for putting up said windbreak!)
For the first few days, the weather was fabulous, with wall to wall sunshine, and picture postcard sunsets. The hut is the perfect place to get changed pre and post swim, and is great for leaving your beach paraphernalia in for the duration too. We had a couple of off days weather-wise, but having the beach hut means you can still enjoy the beach, as you can take shelter if it rains or gets a bit chilly. It’s still a lovely, relaxing place to be, watching the world go by, reading a book or chatting with other ‘beach hutters’!
We enjoyed ice creams and coffees from Enricos, as well as a fish and chip supper, and pizzas from local takeaways, whilst waiting for sunset!
To hire a beach hut, or for more information, visit www.parkinestates.co.uk/beach-huts - there are 70 to choose from, all with traditional English girls’ names; although do be aware that they get booked up quickly for the main school summer holidays (the beach huts are in situ from late May – early September).
